Cannabis COA (Certificate of Analysis)

A certificate of analysis is a laboratory report on a specific sample. It is evidence about that sample, not automatically about everything else.

What a COA contains

COAs typically identify the lab, sample, dates and the tests performed. Depending on the program they can include cannabinoid potency, and tests for contaminants such as pesticides, microbials, heavy metals and residual solvents.

What a COA establishes

A COA reports results for the sample tested. Whether those results represent a lot, a crop or a product depends on how the sample was taken and identified.

COAs as evidence

COAs appear in classification disputes, contract rejections, product claims and insurance matters. Their weight depends on sample identity, method and consistency with other records.
