Hemp Plant vs Marijuana Plant

Some hemp grown for fiber or grain looks very different from marijuana. Hemp grown for flower and cannabinoids often does not.

Fiber and grain hemp

Hemp grown for fiber or grain is often planted densely and grows tall with sparse flowering, so a field can look quite different from a marijuana grow.

Cannabinoid hemp

Hemp grown for CBD or other cannabinoids is cultivated for flower, often from cultivars related to marijuana genetics. These plants can look the same as marijuana plants in the field and after harvest.

What form can and cannot tell you

Plant structure can suggest what a crop was grown for. It cannot establish THC concentration, which is what defines the legal category.
