What Determines the Value of a Cannabis Crop

Crop value is built from a chain of facts. Each link needs support.

By Ted Menadier, MBA

Quantity

Plant counts, canopy and expected yield for the method and cultivar establish how much product the crop would have produced.

Growth stage

A crop lost weeks before harvest has a different value from one lost at harvest. Remaining costs and risk matter.

Quality and product mix

Flower grade, trim and biomass carry different prices. Quality evidence such as photos and testing supports the mix.

Market and timing

The appropriate market level, usually wholesale for a cultivator, and the pricing at the relevant time complete the analysis.

What crop valuation is not

Crop valuation is not business valuation. It addresses the crop, not the enterprise value of a company.
